Royal Ploughing Day 2013

Date:
Thursday, May 9, 2013

The Royal Ploughing Ceremony in Cambodia is considered an ancient royal rite.

It is celebrated by a number of countries in Asia as a way of marking the traditional commencement of the season for rice growing.

In Cambodia it is celebrated on the 4th day of the 6th lunar month's waning moon.

The ceremony has a dual origin – Hindu and Buddhist.

At some point in history, two similar ceremonies merged into a single one.
